This page was created thanks to Kate Quinn directing me to her “Whoops, My Mistake(s)” page on her own website. I know… Kate Quinn makes mistakes??? I’m shocked too. If a powerhouse historical fiction author like her can own up, I certainly can.

It is inevitable when writing a book that mistakes WILL. BE. MADE. A misspelling, the wrong kind of weapon for the time period, a certain fabric mentioned that wasn’t created yet… the list goes on. Writing historical fiction is not easy. Our job as authors is to pull you in to a time period. Having mistakes (that are caught - if you don’t catch them - YAY!) can pull a reader right out of the story. But sometimes we also take creative license. We are, after all, writing FICTION. Sometimes we need a television in a house before most houses had television (raises hand - guilty!). Sometimes we create a lake years before it was actually dug out (also guilty). And sometimes we just miss something. It happens. Why? Because we read these manuscripts over and over and OVER again. Eventually we are just too close to the project to spot the otherwise obvious errors. We can’t catch them all, folks. But we can laugh at them. And on that note… here we go!

THE FLIGHT GIRLS

The gun. Written as mm, should be caliber. Oof. (this one in particular hurt my ego)

Headrests? In Jeeps? What was I thinking? (I was thinking modern day vehicles, that’s what I was thinking)

The television. In someone’s home?! I went with creative license on this. Some people (wealthier people) did have televisions at that time. But it was super rare.

The lake in Texas the girls went to on weekends. Uh-oh… Did not exist until years later. Again - creative license. I wanted my gals to have some fun!

I’m sure there are more and if you find them - let me know! I’ll post it here and even give you credit!

TO BE CONTINUED WITH…

ANGELS OF THE RESISTANCE

If you read it and catch a BOO-BOO, let me know! You’ll get credit! And I’ll appreciate your keen attention to detail.
